Dear Families,
Thank you everyone for showering me with gifts and love during teacher appreciation week and for my birthday! I feel blessed to have a job I love. Thank you for entrusting your little ones to me this year. It has been a pleasure being their teacher.
The kids have been taking turns sitting at the first grade desk and they all seem to love it so far. Your little ones are ready to be first graders! Library is now done for the year so please make sure all books have been returned.
I'm almost through giving the end of year language arts assessments and next week I will give the math assessments. The children should know all 38 sight words and color words and be able to blend short vowel words, like cat. They also need to be able to write 2 sentences with my guidance. In math they need to count to 100, write numbers to 30, and add and subtract to 10. If the children do not meet these benchmarks they may receive a grade of an N on their report cards.
Open house will be at 5:30 on May 30th. You will be able to see the work from our seven week study on plants and animals around the classroom and look at your child's portfolio. You can also go look at the garden area where each child was able to plant seeds with their big buddy.
Please continue to read to your child nightly and to have him or her practice sight words. I encourage you to continue practicing reading all summer so your child does't forget the skills taught this year. You can also practice memorizing addition and subtraction facts to 10.
